In the world of animation software Maya is one of the best software. But there are so many software like 3D Max, Lumion, AutoCAD, Zbrush, Render Man, Blender etc. I will discuss the Maya software. There are two kinds of animation, one is 2D animation and another one is 3D animation. Maya software is used for 3D animation.
Today I will discuss about the interface of Maya.
Maya is a big software that means is not easy to handle without a proper time. If you spend too much time minutely then you can understand. If you go for an intuition to take a proper training then you have to pay 1-1.5 lacks for one year and everyday 8 hour class. So I think you can understand the value of the software and the market demand.
Now every thing is 3D, like tv ads, 3D animation movies. Every kind of people enjoys the animation movie.
Let's start the 1st day of the class.

Maya interface- how to handle the Maya software? Follow step by step. I will show this in Maya 2011. If you want to learn this software first you have to install. The size of the software is 1.5 GB to 1.8 GB.
First open Maya 2011. The interface looks like that-

Take a look at the image below

Maya Interface 01
Image 2
  1. Main menu bar- main option of Maya is there.
  2. Self bar – self bar is divided in to 7 parts, like Animation, Polygons, surfaces, Dynamics, Rendering, nDynamics and customize. In the top left corner of the Self bar there is a drop down menu. If you click the menu you can see the other menus and select them also. Image 3
  3. Status Line

Now I discuss about most important three tools, Move Tool, Scale Tool and Rotate Tool.
Move Tool: you can move an object. The shortcut is [v]
Scale Tool: you can scale an object. The shortcut is [w]
Rotate Tool. You can rotate an object. The shortcut is [e]

Note: one thing remembers when you work with shortcut don’t open the caps lock on. If you on caps lock the shortcut will not work properly.

Difference between bump map and displacement map in Maya: Maya Tutorials

Difference between bump map and displacement map in Maya:

Bump and displacement map allow to create surfaces that are not completely smooth. Go ahead and create a simple sphere and apply the Blinn material on the sphere. In the attribute of Blinn material, go to blinn1 and under this there is an option Common Material Attributes. Just scroll down and there is Bump Mapping option.
Take a look at the image
difference-bump-map-and-displacement

Image 2
bump-map-and-displacement 01

At the end of the Bump Mapping option there is a small checker box, click on that. It will open “Create Render note” window.
bump-map-and-displacement-image
Image 3

Take cloth texture from there

bump-map-and-displacement-picture
Image 4
Cloth texture is attached to 2D bump map node. We can use this as a bump map node. Like that
bump-map-and-displacement
Image 5
Adjust the Bump Depth and render

bump-map-and-displacement-01
Image 6
The problem is that Bump map can not deform the surface or geometry. If you render it close up then you can understand. It creates a fake depth on geometry. And it is also a rendering tips. The edge of the sphere is smooth. It looks like bumpy but actually it is not. Like that
bump-map-and-displacement-02
Image 7
So we can use now Displacement Map
Again use blinn material on this sphere
But if you look at the window there is not any displacement window in the Attributor editor to add the displacement map.
Where we actually have to add this? Please take a look at the image below
bump-map-and-displacement-03
Image 8
bump-map-and-displacement-05
Image 9
Displacement is applied as material not a as texture.
Now render and see the difference.

bump-map-and-displacement-06
Image 10
Displacement map changes the shape of the geometry.
A lot of people use displacement map on the ground plane to look like bumpy and rocky but one thing remember that displacement map changes the geometry. In displacement map you can get the shadow effect according to your geometry. Look at the image
bump-mapand-displacement-07
Image 11
But in the bump map you can not get a shadow effect. Because of bump map cannot change the geometry. It creates the fake bumpy illusion and it is a render tips.
